Hi! Anybody have an opinion whether foliar spraying with glyphosate (e.g. Roundup) versus triclopyr (e.g. Garlon 3a) is more effective at controlling Japanese knotweed?

I have talked with Dan Shaver from the Brown County Woodland Project and he said they were spraying Japanese Knotweed with 3% Garlon 3A (triclopyr) or 3% Glyphosate. At this time he did not have an opinion of which one was working better. He said with either chemical he expected it to take three years to control Knotweed. We have sprayed a very low percentage of Habitat herbicide in late fall with fairly good results, but it still appears that it will take three years to eradicate the clone.
It would be great if someone could do some research on control of Knotweed. There are a lot of land mangers and property owners struggling with this invasive right now. I may try to do some web research and see what they are using in England for control. It appears to be the worst invasive in England at the current time so hopefully they are ahead of us in knowing what works and what doesn't. i will post any useful information that I find in the near future.

Thanks, Spencer. I was out at Cedar Bluffs today and after years of foliar spraying and cut stem treatment (mainly glyphosate) we're down to about a dozen spindly stems, all of which I cut (no herbicide with me to treat). It is a tough one.
It amazes me this is still for sale in the US when in England you can't get a mortgage on a property if it has knotweed because it is so damaging and so expensive to get rid of.

Its not easy to kill knotweeds. But i think glyphosate spray would be a great to eradicate knotweeds. But also remember that these knotweeds kills also kills your valuable plants... Knotweed Eradication
